Gary Richardson, CJ Pearson head to run-off for Georgia House District 125 seat
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The seat for Georgia House District 125 is heading to a run-off.
In the run-off will be Gary Richardson and CJ Pearson. Richardson lead the election with 1,131 votes, with Pearson right behind him with 1,011.
The runoff will be held March 12.
The special election is for the seat vacated by Barry Fleming after he was appointed as a judge by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.
During the three weeks of advance voting, 879 people voted. Officials say 28 of the 35 absentee-by-mail ballots have been received in Columbia County.
The candidates qualified for the election were:
- CJ Pearson – Republican
- Gary Richardson – Republican
- Jim Steed – Republican
- Kay Turner – Democrat
- John Turpish – Libertarian
This was not a countywide election.
Next up
The Georgia presidential primary is March 12, which is the week after Super Tuesday.
Early voting goes from Feb. 19 until March 8.
Polls for primary day are open 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
And in Georgia, you are allowed to vote in either party for the primary, but you cannot vote more than once.
In Augusta, early voting will be held at the following locations:
- Linda W. Beazley Community Room in the Municipal Building – 535 Telfair St.
- Charles Evans Community Center – 1866 Highland Ave.
- Robert Howard Community Center – 103 Diamond Lakes Way
- Warren Road Recreation Center – 300 Warren Road
Voting will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Saturdays, Feb. 24 and March 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also on March 3 at the Linda Beazley Room only.
The last day to vote advance will be March 8.
