DeKalb County to deliver 5,000 boxes of food to Hurricane Helene survivors in Augusta, GA – On Common Ground News – 24/7 local news

DECATUR, G A—DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond and the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners are sending 5,000 boxes of food and emergency supplies to Augusta, GA to support the region’s Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.

“DeKalb County is honored to support Mayor Johnson and our neighbors in Augusta who are struggling to recover from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene,” Thurmond said.

The Good Neighbor Express will leave for Augusta at 4 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, to deliver 5,000 boxes containing Georgia-grown fruits, vegetables and produce that can be consumed without cooking, sanitizers, masks and COVID-19 tests.

The 10 18-wheelers will depart from the Nickey Gregory Company, located at the Atlanta State Farmers Market,16 Forest Pkwy Bldg. M, Forest Park, GA 30297.

The emergency assistance results from a mutual aid agreement signed by CEO Thurmond and Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson on Oct. 2.

The boxes will be distributed at the following locations, while supplies last:

• Good Shepherd Baptist, 1714 Olive Rd., Augusta
• Broadway Baptist, 2323 Barton Chapel Rd., Augusta
• Faith Outreach Church, 102 South Belair Rd., Augusta

• Greater Young Zion Baptist Church, 405 Sand Bar Ferry Road
• Good Samaritan Baptist Church, 1556 Maple St.
