AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The city of Augusta has launched a TikTok page to share news and information with the community.

The city’s first posts include highlights of artwork downtown and the new “Breaking Barriers” exhibit by the Greater Augusta Arts Council in the city gallery.

In 2022, Governor Brian Kemp banned TikTok on all state computer devices controlled by Georgia’s state government, saying the Chinese may be able to access users’ personal information. Government cell phones also fall under the rule.

Senate Bill 93 also applies to similar social media platforms that are directly or indirectly owned by foreign adversaries. The bill does provide exceptions for law-enforcement investigations, cybersecurity research, and for other government purposes.
