Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center seeks volunteer drivers

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking volunteers to help drive veterans to medical appointments.

Emma Brown, VA Augusta’s hospital service coordinator, said volunteers would support the Disabled American Veterans Medical Transport Service. It uses a van provided by the local DAV.

Volunteers can sign up to drive one day a month or more.

“VA Augusta is only as strong as the community that supports us,” Brown said, “so we’re grateful for anyone who can support us and our veteran patients in this way.”

Among the requirements are a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, passing a physical exam, the ability to conduct simple pre-operation vehicle checks and participation in a defensive driving course.

VA Augusta also provides volunteer drivers with free breakfast and lunch meal tickets during their time volunteering.
