Big truck pulls down power poles, closing Washington Road

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A section of Washington Road was closed Thursday after a truck pulled down two power poles.

A truck pulling an oversize-load snagged utility wires between 9:30 and 10 a.m. in front of the Red Lobster. The lines came down and two power poles snapped.

Washington Road was closed between Boy Scout and Bertram roads. It had reopened by 5:30 p.m., but traffic was slow.

Georgia Power expected its part of the repair work to be completed by 5 p.m.

Georgia Power reported more than 2,500 customers were without electricity for a time just after the accident. By noon, only a handful still lacked service.
