Baby found safe after kidnapping, car theft in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says they are investigating after a 2-week-old baby was kidnapped in a stolen car.

The sheriff’s office says deputies responded to the 2100 Block of A Street at 9:07 p.m. in reference to a motor vehicle theft with a child inside.

The victim was unloading her vehicle when an unknown subject got into it and drove off with her 2-week-old baby still inside, officials say.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies began searching for the vehicle and child, and locating both approximately 15 minutes later near Lake Olmstead.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle and the child was found safe and reunited with the mother, officials say.
