AUGUSTA, Ga. –
As we get closer to 9/11, Augusta University is honoring those who lost their lives through the Tunnel to Towers 5k.
The 7th Annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5k Run and Walk was held Saturday morning at the Augusta University Summerville Campus.
The event commemorates lives lost on September 11th, 2001.
“I’m running in remembrance of the fallen heroes and supporting a good cause.” said runner Tony Smiley.
A display on campus showed pictures and stories of those who were lost. Some runners even had their pictures and names clipped on their shirts. As each runner crossed the finish line, cheerleaders and other participants supported them.
Ken Burrows crossed the finish line first for the male division. He says this event is important in so many ways.
“Honoring those who passed away on 9/11. It’s a great event, being out here.” said Burrows.
Augusta University officials say participation grows ever year.
