Augusta crews fight 2 fires; 1st left 2 children dead
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Augusta firefighters battled two separate fires early Thursday morning; the first took the lives of two children under 10-years-old, according to authorities.
Augusta fire officials say the call for the fire came in at 1:04 a.m. on the 1900 block of Moore Road.
Upon arrival, officials say firefighters saw flames through the front door and windows but quickly extinguished the fire.
During their primary search, firefighters found two children, ages 10 and 7, in a bedroom, who tragically did not survive.
The mother and her 13-year-old daughter, having escaped safely, were transported to Doctors Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Augusta firefighters were called to an abandoned structure on Lucky Street due to a fire at 2:23 a.m., according to authorities.
Upon arrival, crews observed smoke and flames but quickly managed to extinguish the fire.
A primary search was conducted to ensure the building was empty, confirming there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
Fire officials advise home safety, especially during the winter months.
