Augusta ‘Art of Golf’ exhibit gives patrons a visit to the course
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – One artist is taking the famous swings of Tiger Woods, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and many more and transforming them into one-of-a-kind pieces.
Now you can check out a free pop-up gallery at Westobou in downtown Augusta.
Imagine an exhibit where patrons can visit the course through art. It’s an experience you’ll only get at Westobou with “The Art of Golf” gallery.
“We knew that the audience was in Augusta during this week so we wanted to sort of capitalize on that and host a sort of short pop-up featuring work that focused on golf,” said Westobou Executive Director, Matt Porter.
Crafted by artist and sports enthusiast, Ted Dimond, the exhibit takes visitors to the green through an array of colorful paintings of their favorite pro golfers.
“Some people are coming because they relate to the players that are depicted in these pictures. Some people to the historical events that are depicted. So, these are, in a sense, some of these are like the history of golf wins,” he said.
It’s the first time the non-profit has had a golf exhibit.
They say it’s a way to get more out-of-town visitors to the downtown area.
“One of the things that’s really a challenge for us is to get people to experience the entirety of Augusta during the masters. Getting people to explore different parts of the city will give them a better picture of how great our city is,” said Porter.
They’re giving patrons more opportunities to explore and take home some golf memorabilia from golf week in Augusta.
“It might be a good way to kind of celebrate the end of your experience in Augusta,” he said.
The exhibit is located at 1129 Broad Street and will be open until April 13.
If you’d like to take a piece or two home, the paintings are for sale.
