American Airlines plane evacuated after haze reported in cabin
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/Gray News) – An American Airlines flight was evacuated at an airport in Georgia on Tuesday morning.
Officials with the Augusta Regional Airport said it was an inbound flight from Charlotte, North Carolina.
Upon landing, officials said a haze was reported inside the cabin of the aircraft.
The plane stopped and passengers were safely evacuated, airport officials said.
According to a spokesperson for American Airlines, flight No. 5406 experienced a maintenance issue after landing. Passengers deplaned and were escorted to the airport terminal.
“The safety of our customers is our top priority, and we apologize for the inconvenience,” the spokesperson shared in a statement.
Aircraft rescue and fire responded to the scene, but there was no fire reported.
The aircraft was scheduled to leave Augusta Regional Airport later in the afternoon, but has been rescheduled.
Airport officials said it was the only flight affected on Tuesday at Augusta Regional.
