Former Atlanta Hawk Dion Glover hosts basketball camp at Worth County High School
SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) – In Coach Paul Williams first year in Sylvester he lead the Worth County Rams to their first winning season since 2018.
Winning; a culture Coach Williams is trying to continue and one way to keep it going is by learning from some of the best, and who better to learn from than former Atlanta Hawks first round pick Dion Glover.
Glover made his way to the 229 to host a two day basketball boot camp at Worth County High School. Ball handling, shooting, conditioning and footwork the main focuses of Tuesday’s camp. Ball players ages 3rd-12th were not only able to take tips from Glover but Coach Greg Robinson, a coach for the Atlanta Celtics. An AAU team based in the ATL who has produced stars such as Glover himself, Jumaine Jones, and Dwight Howard. Coming to Sylvester was never a question for Glover when it came to helping his good friend Coach Williams grow his vision.
“I love giving back first of all, and second of all my great friend Paul Williams is great guy and it’s something he asked me to do. He doesn’t have to ask twice because our relationship is real strong so I definitely wanted see the talent in this area and just meet some new people. I love the talent. I grew up at the time Marietta, Georgia was a country town so I always have a special place for a lot of trees, a lot of back roads, a lot of cows and stuff like. I think it’s phenomenal, they worked hard today and you can tell the work ethic and stuff is there and I think it’s going to be some really good players come out of this school,” said Glover.
“I think just the culture we’re trying to build. You know you get a guy like Dion an NBA player, Georgia Tech, Atlanta Hawk guy to come in and you know he drove all the way from Atlanta to put this on. It’s cool for me to watch him but for the kids I just think somebody that caliber coming down to Worth County,” expressed Coach Williams.
Day two of the camp will begin Wednesday at 1:00pm.
