Atlanta Public Schools employees targeted with ‘threatening’ swatting emails
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Atlanta Public Schools employees are being targeted with threatening emails, according to the school district.
In a letter to parents and guardians, the school district said the emails “threaten violence against our schools and urge staff to take immediate action in response to those threats.”
APS officials said colleges and universities across the nation have gotten similar emails and the FBI has “identified these emails as swatting.”
Swatting is when a hoax call of a serious crime is made to law enforcement.
School system police and Atlanta police are investigating the issue.
The school district said it is closely monitoring the situation.
