10. Visit the Georgia Aquarium

Of course, no list about Atlanta would be complete without a recommendation to visit the Georgia Aquarium. This state-of-the-art aquarium is a research and conservation center for sea life from all over the world. Come face to face with impressively smart Beluga whales, playful sea lions, massive sharks, and of course, the jewel of the aquarium, our two adult male whale sharks. Basically, it’s one of the best things to do in town.

11. Visit the Fernbank Museum of Natural History

Fernbank Museum

Fernbank is probably the most famous natural history museum in Atlanta, and for good reason. They’ve got massive (life-sized) dinosaur skeleton replications, tons of archeological artifacts and replicas about the state of Georgia, and an interactive exhibit dedicated to physics and physical science.

Fernbank also hosts incredibly interesting rotating and traveling exhibits in their special exhibit hall. And stop by after the sun goes down for Fernbank After Dark, an adults-only look at the museum, with cocktails!

12. See a Broadway show at the Fox Theatre

The Fox Theatre

Atlanta’s most famous theatre is The Fox Theatre, which is a historic building housing many a traveling Broadway show, world premiere, movie, and ghost tour! The Fox Theatre has 4,665 seats, in a gorgeous and comfortable theatre space, where you can appreciate the finest artistic performances in the city.

13. Visit the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

Since its founding in 1945, the ASO has become one of the most impressive and innovative orchestras in all of North America. The ASO hosts incredible concerts and shows that will leave you dreaming of a world of music and art long after the curtains (metaphorically) close.

14. Take the kids to the Children’s Museum of Atlanta

The children’s museum is the perfect spot to take your kids to play and learn in the city of Atlanta. This massive, two story museum is full of interactive, hands-on learning and child-friendly things to do. Take your kids to the science center upstairs, where they can do a guided experiment with knowledgeable staff, or to the CMA stage for story time and games! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta has several permanent exhibits: like the grocery store and farm, a paint wall, a two-story climber and spinning globe that the kids can get inside of, and so much more!

The museum also hosts a morph exhibit, which rotates every few months to keep the kiddos on their toes!

There is no entry without a child. The museum is geared towards children age 0-8, and has sensory accommodations available upon request.

Zoo Atlanta

Zoo Atlanta is an incredible place to visit to see animals from all over the world! Whether you want to see animals from near or far, Zoo Atlanta has them all! Take a stroll through the massive park to learn about animals, their habitats, and so much more!

16. Visit the Center for Puppetry Arts

17. Take a trip to the Ponce City Market

The Ponce City Market is one of the most iconic places to visit in Atlanta when you’re looking for things to do. Downstairs, a huge food hall fills the building, with everything from delicious pastries to fancy Italian food. They’ve got some of the most iconic Atlanta eats and treats, including a King of Pops stand! Go upstairs for tons of adorable shops, from local artists and creators!

And head to the roof for tons of events and cool happenings. And the PCM connects to Atlanta’s incredible walking trail that wraps around the city, The BeltLine.

In the spring, the flowers are in full bloom, summer hosts tons of outdoor activities and greenery, and in the fall, the botanical garden hosts their annual scarecrow festival!

Atlanta is home to tons of public parts where you can wander around and enjoy the weather, have a picnic, or even learn a thing or two about our history!

20. Go for a walk or a ride on the BeltLine

One of the most unique things about Atlanta is its BeltLine. This 22-mile paved and maintained trail was formerly a railway corridor, and connects all of the city. It forms a loop around the core of the city, and is open for walking, running, skating, riding bird scooters, and so much more.

The BeltLine is also lined with iconic restaurants and breweries. It makes parts of Atlanta, which is not really a walkable city, into walkable green spaces full of life! We love our BeltLine and all of the art along the trail! The BeltLine provides tons of things to do in the city!

22. Check out the High Museum of Art

The High Museum of Art is Atlanta’s massive, beautiful art museum in Midtown. The High has several floors of art, including permanent exhibits dedicated to: African Art, Folk and Self-Taught Art, American Art, Decorative Arts, and European Arts.

The High also hosts several traveling and rotating exhibits, so there’s always something new and exciting to see! Enjoy the art in a peaceful, beautiful place right in the heart of Midtown.

Oh, and The High has tons of events, from Oasis, which is an amazing calming yoga event to High Frequency Fridays, which is a super fun cocktail and music night at the museum! You can always find something fun and enriching to do at the High!

23. Hit Atlanta’s indie art scene at Atlanta Underground

Atlanta Underground is one of the coolest districts in Downtown Atlanta. With a huge (literally) underground art gallery and music venue space and tons of shops, there’s plenty of things to do and see there! You’ll definitely want to check out the gallery events and local art shows. Oh, and it’s home to Atlanta’s sound gallery and cat lounge, so you really can’t go wrong!

24. Step into a world of colors in the Krog Street Tunnel

Atlanta’s favorite little tunnel on (you guessed it) Krog Street is a street artist’s dream. The tunnel is filled with colorful graffiti and local art! And a little fun fact, since there’s so much graffiti, it’s a popular place for film and TV to film! They just spray paint what they want directly on the walls and shoot their movies!

And it’s right next to the Krog district, which is full of restaurants, bars, and so many other fun things to do and see!

25. Ride the Permanent Ferris Wheel in Downtown Atlanta

SkyView Atlanta is the iconic, massive ferris wheel that sits permanently in Downtown Atlanta, right across from Centennial Olympic Park!

One of the coolest things to do downtown is to take a ride and see the whole city from the comfort of a personal, air conditioned gondola. If you love this city, you’ll wanna see it from the sky.
