Vanderbilt baseball score vs. Arkansas: Live updates from final regular-season series
Vanderbilt baseball has struggled the past two weeks but it will need to get right quickly this weekend to secure favorable seeding for the postseason.
The Commodores (35-16, 17-10) will be relatively shorthanded against Arkansas (38-13, 19-8) in their final regular-season series, as they will not have Carter Holton and Hunter Owen is questionable to pitch. Beyond the pitching injuries, Vanderbilt has scored less than five runs in seven straight SEC games.
The Commodores can still finish anywhere between the first and eighth seed in the SEC Tournament, though a conference title would require a sweep. Arkansas is currently in first place in the conference with a one-game lead over Florida.
The Razorbacks are also dealing with some injuries, as infielder Peyton Stovall is out for the season, while outfielder Jared Wegner is expected to return this weekend from a fractured thumb.
Vanderbilt baseball vs. Arkansas: Game results
Thursday: Vanderbilt fell to Arkansas, 8-2, after allowing six unearned runs thanks to four errors. But despite four of the five runs he allowed being unearned, starter Patrick Reilly struggled, walking six and striking out only one. The Commodores had six hits, just one fewer than the Razorbacks, but all six were singles and Vanderbilt walked just twice.
“They’re pressing,” Tim Corbin said afterward. “I can see it, you can see it.”
