Texas A&M knocks off Arkansas to reach SEC Tournament Championship Game

Texas A&M will play for an SEC Tournament championship. The No. 10 seed Aggies handed No. 2 seed Arkansas its first tournament loss, winning 5-4 to send the Razorbacks home from Hoover. Texas A&M will play the winner of Florida-Vanderbilt in Sunday’s tournament championship game.

Texas A&M broke the scoring ice in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Tervor Werner’s RBI double put the Aggies up 1-0.

The Aggies extended their lead with a big 6th inning, going up 4-0.

Jace LaViolette made it a 5-1 game with an RBI knock in the 8th inning. At the time, it was just an insurance run. It turned out to be the game’s deciding run.

The Aggies used 4 pitchers on Saturday. Matt Dillard struck out 6 over 4 scoreless innings. Shane Sdao picked up the win with 2.2 innings of work, allowing 1 run.

Arkansas rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning. The Hogs scored on 3 hits and 1 error. Troy Wansing recorded the final 2 outs and the save.

Texas A&M has been one of the best stories of this year’s tournament. As the No. 10 seed, the Aggies did not get an early bye. They upset defending champion Tennessee to advance to the second round but fell to Arkansas 6-5 on Wednesday. Facing elimination in the loser’s bracket, Texas A&M knocked off South Carolina 6-0 and LSU 5-4 in back-to-back days.

We’ll see Sunday if the Aggies have 1 more win in them at Hoover.
