Bill aims to mandate Arkansas classes show fetal gestation video
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT/KARK) – A bill in the Arkansas Legislature aims to show a video called “Meet Baby Olivia” in health classrooms across the state.
According to our content partner KARK, the bill aims to include human growth and development discussion in Arkansas health classrooms.
Starting in fifth grade, students would view the fetus development video made by the anti-abortion organization Live Action.
The bill’s lead sponsor, Representative Mary Bentley said the video has been scientifically backed.
“I’ve had colleagues [ask], ‘Why this video?’ ‘Why show this video?’ because it’s already been through the ringer, already been through court cases to make sure it’s scientifically accurate,” Bentley said.
Gennie Diaz, executive director of For AR People, said the video is misleading, claiming the timeline of the fetus development in the video is off.
