The 2024 Major League Baseball Draft began Sunday and will continue through Tuesday.
Left-handed pitcher Hagen Smith was the first player with Arkansas baseball ties to come off the board when he was selected fifth overall by the Chicago White Sox. He is one of many draft-eligible players the Razorbacks are keeping an eye on over the 20 rounds.

Hagen Smith, LHP
Drafted: Chicago White Sox, 1st round, 5th overall
Status: Has not signed (slot value $7.76 million)
Smith became the highest-drafted pitcher in Arkansas baseball history. He owns the Razorbacks’ single season (161 in 2024) and career (360) strikeout records. Smith was a unanimous first-team All-American and won the College Baseball Foundation’s National Pitcher of the Year Award. He was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, which are given to the national player of the year.

Drafted: Cincinnati Reds, 2nd round, 51st overall
Status: Has not signed (slot value $1.8 million)
Lewis, 6-2 and 195 pounds, was rated the No. 39 draft prospect by MLB.com. The Omaha, Neb., native became the first Nebraska high school player drafted since 2019. He bats from the left side and throws with his right arm. According to MLB.com’s scouting report, Lewis has a “quick left-handed stroke and is driving the ball harder and more consistently than he has in the past.” He is considered to have solid-to-plus speed and is aggressive as a baserunner.
