American kidnapped in Mexico, left to die in jungle with eyes, wrists taped
A New York man living in Mexico is lucky to be alive after several men abducted him and held him for a $200,000 ransom.
The kidnappers taped Joseph Constantine Buonincontri’s eyes shut and bound him by his wrists and ankles, and left him deep in a jungle in Limones, Mexico, a remote area about 200 miles southwest of Cancun.
Locals tipped off the police about armed men driving a taxi from Tulum, a popular resort area, into the secluded wilderness, which sparked a rescue mission by the Mexican military and the Mexican National Guard.
The 35-year-old New Yorker was alive, but tied up in a straw hut, according to the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office, which said authorities recovered a backpack with marijuana, a tactical vest and loaded magazines for an AR-15.

The kidnappers have not been identified or caught since Buonincontri was found on Feb. 4 and was unharmed, according to local Mexican news outlets and the prosecutor’s office.
A 1.5-minute video of the rescue published on borderlandbeat.com showed the moment authorities found Buonincontri. The website translated the conversation.
A soldier asked twice if he was OK and if he was hungry or thirsty.

Buonincontri reportedly responded by asking for a cigarette and to take the tape off his eyes.
“We’ve already called the authorities. Agents from the Public Prosecutors Office and the Attorney General’s Office are going to arrive and remove that blindfold from your eyes,” the soldier reportedly said, according to the translation by borderlandbeat.com.
“But are you OK? We’re soldiers from the Mexican Army. We belong to the 7th Motorized Cavalry Regiment. And we’ve come here to give you aid.”

During the conversation, Buonincontri reportedly told the soldiers that he was from New York and visiting a family member in Limones.
The soldier asked him if he remembered what happened and when he was kidnapped.
“No, I can’t recall the day,” Buonincontri reportedly said, according to borderlandnews.com’s translation. “I don’t even know what day this is.”

Team USA women’s basketball has several college stars to thank for its latest gold medal.
On June 7, the USA women’s basketball 3×3 roster secured gold with a 21-20 win over Australia at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Warsaw, Poland. The victory comes after a gritty 19-18 overtime win over Azerbaijan in the semifinals. The winning group included South Carolina’s Joyce Edwards, LSU’s Mikaylah Williams and MiLaysia Fulwiley, plus Oklahoma forward Saraha Williams.
Since the event began in 2012, the American women have medaled five times, including four gold medals (2012, 2014, 2023, 2026) and one bronze (2016).
Mikaylah Williams, who made the game-winning basket to push the USA out in front, also walked away with MVP honors. She scored a team-high nine points in the matchup. Mikaylah led the team in scoring with 6.6 points per matchup a joined Cameron Brink (2023) as the only other American woman to take home an MVP award.
“I’m blessed to be on this stage, to play with some amazing teammates, to play for some amazing coaches and to rep USA,,” Williams said postgame.
Edwards, a star at South Carolina, has the led Gamecocks to two national title games. The 6-foot-3 forward was a consensus All-American as a sophomore this past season, averaging 19.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 57.1% from the floor.
Mikaylah Williams has started in 105 of the 106 games she’s played at LSU and was named to first-team All-SEC for a second time this past season. Over her career, Mikaylah has averaged 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 39.3% from 3-point range.
Edwards and Fulwiley previously played together at South Carolina during the 2024-25 season before Fulwiley transferred to LSU, where she plays alongside Mikaylah Williams. Fulwiley has won the SEC’s Sixth Player of the Year twice and has also been named to an All-Region team in the NCAA Tournament twice. Last season, Fulwiley averaged 14.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.
Sahara Williams averaged 12.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 46.1% from the floor this past season for the Sooners. She helped Oklahoma make the Sweet 16 during the 2026 NCAA Tournament, where the Sooners fell to Edwards and South Carolina.

More than 90% of employees participated in the survey. The results showed that 88% believe their teams work well together, 88% are satisfied with their jobs, and 83% feel they are part of something meaningful. Those numbers matter because communities are strongest when the people serving them care about the work they do. When teams work well together, projects move forward. When employees find purpose in their jobs, they look for solutions. When people believe their work matters, residents often experience better service, stronger connections, and a community that continues moving forward while holding on to what makes it special.
“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “That’s something to be proud of. In today’s market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That’s paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends.”
“Having a great positive workplace culture is one of our highest priorities of our City leadership team,” said Eric Stuckey. “Our employees are the most valuable assets we have in the city and their exceptional service to the community is well appreciated by our community. Texas homeowner mistakes alligator on the porch for an Amazon package delivery
FULSHEAR, Texas – A Texas homeowner heading out for an early morning walk got quite a surprise when he mistook a large reptile parked on his front porch for an online delivery.
Officers with the Fulshear Police Department were called to a local residence last week after the homeowner accidentally struck an alligator with his screen door, initially believing it was a package from Amazon.
What they’re saying:
“With all the heavy rain we’ve been getting lately, it seems the gators are on the move,” the police department said in a statement. “This little fella decided to skip the swamp and upgrade to porch life this morning.”
Footage released by the department captures the alligator resting on the concrete porch while the homeowner explains the startling encounter to responding officers, noting he didn’t realize what it was until he banged into it with the door.
Police officers successfully wrangled the alligator and relocated it safely to a nearby pond.
Recent heavy rainfall across the region has displaced local wildlife, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain cautious as animals seek out dry territory.
“If you see an unexpected visitor like this around your home, give it plenty of space and let us handle it,” the department reminded the community. “Apparently, even the gators are looking for higher ground these days!”
The department also added a bit of local humor to the unusual morning call: “And yes, before anyone asks, this little gator is not paying property taxes.”
