Texas A&M hiring Alabama WR coach Holmon Wiggins
Alabama wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins is set to become the co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at Texas A&M, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
Wiggins has been with the Crimson Tide since 2019 and has coached five first-round picks, including 2020 Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. He’s the second Alabama assistant to depart from this staff, joining outside linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler who is joining Mississippi State as defensive coordinator.
Wiggins’ departure was the second move out of the wide receiver room on Tuesday after sophomore Shazz Preston entered the NCAA transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining. In four recruiting classes under Wiggins (2020-2023), Alabama signed 13 wide receivers but has lost nine to the transfer portal.
Where Wiggins shined, particularly this year, was recruiting. According to 247Sports, Wiggins is the No. 2 recruiter nationally — his 2024 class as a primary recruiter included QB Julian Sayin and WR Ryan Williams, among others. Overall, Wiggins was the primary recruiter for nine players across five positions in seven different states.
The job opening will be attractive nationally, given Alabama’s wide receiver pedigree and the returning talent in 2024. Leading wide receiver Jermaine Burton is graduating but behind him Alabama will return its next five leading pass catchers highlighted by Isaiah Bond and Kobe Prentice.
