Latest injury update on returning Alabama starter on OL
Jaeden Roberts’ status remains uncertain with the season a little over a week away.
The right guard, who was Alabama’s primary starter a season ago at the position, has been missing time in camp as he recovers from a concussion.
“He hasn’t taken any teams reps or anything right now,” Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Thursday. “Still making that progress through that protocol we’re on with his injury.”
Roberts did not partake in either of the two camp scrimmages this month. Roberts was present for the second scrimmage but did not participate in anything of note.
Without Roberts, Geno VanDeMark has started in his place. VanDeMark is in his second season with the program after transferring from Michigan State. He had been competing with Kam Dewberry for the starting left guard spot. VanDeMark played for offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic at Michigan State. VanDeMark saw some time at guard a season ago for Alabama.
Roberts has started 20 games over the past two seasons at right guard for the Crimson Tide.
If Roberts cannot return for the first game, the most likely starting lineup on the offensive line for Florida State will be (left to right) Kadyn Proctor, Dewberry, Parker Brailsford, VanDeMark and Wilkin Formby.
Alabama will open the season against Florida State on Aug. 30 in Tallahassee, Florida.
