Georgia Posts Season-High Road Score at Alabama – University of Georgia Athletics
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The No. 18 University of Georgia gymnastics team posted its season-high road score with a 196.975, falling to No. 10 Alabama’s 198.075 on Friday night in Coleman Coliseum.
Senior Katie Finnegan scored a career-high 9.925 on vault and took home a share of the event title, tying Alabama’s Gabby Gladieux. Three additional GymDogs notched season-high scores, including Sidney Fitzgerald on bars, Eryn Williams on floor, and Anya Turner on beam.
“It was a good away score for us and something we can build on, but we were a few mistakes away from it being great,” Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. “We had a season-high on vault, including Katie Finnegan’s career-high score. This gives us good momentum as we head into the second half of our season.”
The GymDogs started competition on bars, scoring a 49.275. Freshman Lily Smith led the rotation with a 9.925 from the anchor position. Sophomore Ja Free Scott followed with a 9.875 and freshman Ady Wahl contributed a 9.850. Sophomore Sidney Fitzgerald received a season-high 9.825.
Moving onto vault in the second rotation, Georgia scored a season-high 49.275. Senior Katie Finnegan notched a career-high 9.925 in the third spot. Freshman Ady Wahl scored a 9.900 and Scott received a 9.850.
Georgia performed on floor in the third rotation, totaling a 49.175. Smith led the rotation again, scoring a 9.900 for her floor routine. Sophomore Sidney Fitzgerald scored a 9.850 and Eryn Williams received her season-high score of 9.825. Ashlyn La Clair and Wahl both received a 9.800 for their performances.
Finishing on beam, the GymDogs added a 49.250. Ja Free Scott and Anya Turner led the squad, both scoring a 9.900, which marked a season-high for Turner.
The GymDogs are home for the final meet in Stegeman Coliseum this season on Friday, March 1 against Auburn. Competition is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
