Driver, 3 children injured as train collides with Jeep in northeast Alabama
Three children were among those injured in a crash at a railroad crossing in northeast Alabama on Friday night, according to officials.
Just before 9 p.m., police in Scottsboro responded to the Kyle Street railroad crossing and found a Jeep Grand Cherokee had collided with a westbound Norfolk Southern train.
Ron Latimer, the police chief in Scottsboro, said the Jeep overturned, ejecting one of the occupants.
Police said a 24-year-old from Section was driving the Jeep. The driver and three passengers — children from Section, ranging in age from 8 to 12 — were transported to the hospital.
Their conditions were unknown on Saturday morning, according to a news release from the police chief.
There were no injuries were reported among the train crew, police said, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
