Alabama state parks available for Hurricane Milton evacuees

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama’s state parks are opening up their campgrounds for those evacuating Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton.

The state parks division posted on social media that they have teams ready to help those who need somewhere to stay.

Hotels fill up quickly, but we have 21 state parks with accommodations for every budget.

Christie Aitken with Alabama State Parks says no matter where you are in our state, you’re never more than an hour away from a state park. So if one of them begins to fill up, there’s another one nearby.

You can choose between tent camping, RV camping, lodges, or cabins.

Aitken says she’s touched by how Alabamians are stepping up to help our neighbors ahead of the hurricane. Some are even offering to cook meals for those evacuating.

“I see people in our post and in other posts as they share them saying, ‘Hey, once you get to this park — whatever the park may be — I live a mile down the road and I’m ready to bring a hot cooked meal to somebody,’” she shared. “So the humanity, the common humanity, is the theme of this – that we’re all in this together.”

Aitken says the quickest and easiest way to make a reservation is through their website: AlaPark.com but if you don’t have internet access, you can call 1-800-ALA-PARK and their team members can help you find the best option.
