TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama Power thought the call might come and it did. Hundreds of linemen and support personnel pulled out early Tuesday morning and headed straight for Houston, where there are reports of around two million people without power.

Alabama Power says it sent teams totaling 350 linemen and support personnel. Of that number, 50 left Tuscaloosa Tuesday morning.

Alabama Power leaders say the personnel will stay at least 14 days and they have a hard job ahead of them. They will work 16-hour days, doing what they’re trained to do – restore power as quickly as possible for those hammered by Beryl.

“It makes you feel like you’re doing something for people because I know locally it’s very appreciated when people come into our territory when we go through storms. You know, we had our tornadoes and hurricanes. We have our storm season and everything. It’s a big – it helps a lot. It makes you feel good to help people out. It’s tough when it’s 100 degrees to be without power,” said Alabama Power engineer supervisor Logan Eads.

The 350 number represents Alabama Power teams from the whole state of Alabama. The teams left the state with bucket trucks, pole trucks and other equipment needed for the job.
