Alabama man working in Kentucky spends $25 on lottery, wins $50,000
A Mobile man living temporarily in Kentucky for work has won $50,000 playing the state’s online lottery game.
Chad Wrinkle, accompanied by his partner Lori, collected the check in Louisville on Aug. 7.
After taxes, he’s taking home $35,750. The couple said they plan to use some of the winnings to get their Boston Terrier Chip all the treats he wants.
Wrinkle played the lottery’s Wild 8s game, which calls on participants to line up three matching 8 Symbols in any row, column, or diagonal on a grid.
He had only downloaded the lottery app to scan tickets, but began playing online after depositing $25 in his account.
The Wild 8′s win came off a $5 wager.
“It didn’t take long,” Wrinkle said in a news release. “It hit and I was like in shock. I thought it was $500 at first and then I was like, ‘woah, that comma’s in the wrong spot. That’s $50,000!”
