Alabama football is losing a big secondary piece in the transfer portal. Cornerback Trey Amos told On3 Sports on Monday that he plans on entering, later sharing the news to his social media.

The news came after ESPN reported that South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack is the focus of UA’s defensive coordinator search. Alabama players have a 30-day window to enter the transfer portal following Nick Saban’s Wednesday retirement.

Amos was in line to compete for a starting position in 2024, with both Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold having declared for the NFL Draft. He was a key depth player for the 2023 Crimson Tide.

“I would say he’s brought a lot of fire to the group and he’s made us a better group, better secondary,” Arnold said of Amos before the season. “He brings a great toughness to the game and he’s kind of like the rest of us in the group, he’s a perfectionist. I would say we all gel well together and we make each other better.”

Amos finished the 2023 season with 12 tackles and five pass breakups. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-1 Louisiana native joined Alabama as a transfer during the 2023 offseason. He previously played at Louisiana-Lafayette.

He joined the Ragin’ Cajuns as a three-star prospect in the class of 2020.
