Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., warned Sunday that “Democrats are going to lose” in the midterm elections if they don’t deliver on key progressive issues in the coming months, such as student loan debt cancellation.

During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Warren reacted to remarks President Biden made Thursday at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Portland, Oregon. Biden told Democratic donors that he is focused on touting his accomplishments ahead of the elections, saying, “But I admit to you, what I haven’t done — and the reason I’m getting out on the road again instead of dealing with the day-to-day emergencies in my office — is making the case of what we’ve done.”

Warren said Biden “deserves real credit” but that it’s “not enough” for Democrats to talk about what they’ve accomplished.

Warren stated, “We have less than 200 days before the election and American families will be hurting.” “We can stop price gouging, for example. Let’s allow the FTC to investigate price gouging and prosecute. That will bring down prices. Let’s take down Washington’s corruption head-on. We should be saying that members of Congress cannot trade stocks. Let’s cancel student loans. The president has the power to cancel student loan debt and it would have a profound impact on the lives of tens or millions of Americans.

“I believe we’re going in real trouble, if we don’t get up and do that,” she added. “I believe that Democrats will lose. … We need to be fighting going forward. There are certain things that we were elected by the American people to do. We need to do them. If we do that, then it will be fine at the election.”

Warren continued by saying that the Republican Party wants fight “culture Wars” because it lacks ideas about important issues like the economy.

She stated, “Especially when they’re up against someone who just wants to fight cultural wars. That’s going to not help people in there lives.” “They have no idea about the economy, except to impose pain upon American families and small business owners. This is a terrible idea. They want power for themselves, not to help the American people.

Warren’s comments followed an op-ed she penned for The New York Times saying Democrats are heading for “big losses in the midterms” if they do not push through more of the president’s agenda, including finalizing a budget reconciliation deal that raises taxes on businesses to fund “vital investments in combating climate change and lowering costs for families.”

On CNN, Warren pushed back against economists who argue big government spending, like Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act, contributed to the current inflation crisis, which rose 8.5% last month.

She said, “When someone says too large, I hope they will go talk to the millions small business owners whose businesses were saved by us actually putting money into a rescue program.” “I also hope that they will speak to the millions of people who have had vaccinations and have received free testing. That’s how COVID is controlled so that businesses can be open and this economy can move ahead.”
