Vt. Teacher of the year feted at White House state dinner
WASHINGTON (WCAX) – Vermont’s Teacher of the Year and other top educators were honored by the president and first lady at a White House state dinner Thursday.
Aziza Malik earned top honors last October for her work teaching fifth grade at the Champlain Elementary School in Burlington for 14 years.
She said visiting the White House was beyond her wildest dreams. “We just feel so incredibly celebrated and appreciated, and we often don’t get that. So, it’s a little bit out of the norm for us and it feels so wonderful,” she said.
State dinners are typically reserved for visiting heads of state, prime ministers, and the Hollywood elite.
