Vermont town, city clerks seeing requests for 2020 election documents
MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont city and metropolis clerks are dealing with a wave of public information requests for paperwork regarding the 2020 election.
Folks have requested to examine and rely 2020 election ballots in three cities: Bennington, Fairlee and Montpelier.
However based on the Secretary of State’s Workplace, there have been quite a few requests for different paperwork, akin to voter rolls.
Cities maintain onto the paper ballots for 22 months after elections.
Montpelier Metropolis Clerk John Odum says preserving paper ballots is a fallback for election safety.
“It’s there if there are questions, it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks in regards to the legitimacy of the questions or lack thereof, it’s one thing I believe is necessary to the method, the safety of the method and the arrogance of the method to hold on to,” Odum stated.
I reached out to the person who submitted the request in Montpelier, Brian Wheel. He declined to remark.
However high election officers say it’s a part of a nationwide development by those that query the outcomes of the 2020 election.
