Vermont man believed to have drowned while hunting

WILLIAMSTOWN, Vt. (WCAX) – Police believe a Vermont man drowned when his kayak overturned while he was duck hunting.

It happened Sunday at about 5:30 p.m. on Rood Pond in Williamstown.

Vermont State Police say search crews recovered a body Monday morning, and it is believed to be that of Steven Jones, 30, of Brookfield.

Witnesses told troopers they heard yelling from the pond and saw Jones’ overturned kayak.

Investigators say Jones was dressed in warm clothes but was not wearing a life vest.

They say the incident does not appear suspicious.

The body was sent to the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death and confirm the identity.
