RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – The Rutland Area Robotics team marked a new milestone recently, becoming the first team from Vermont to make the First Robotics Championship Finals.

The IBOTS were one of 600 teams from both the U.S. and over 50 other countries competing in Houston last weekend.

The Rutland-based program joined up with three other teams and won their division at the event, which included a team out of Littleton, Massachusetts, whom they had faced before in the recent New England divisional competitions.

“It was really a great thing to be on the same alliance or team and partner up with another strong force in New England. New England is a very close, tight-knit group of people, so all the teams throughout were all very supportive of each other. It was even better to experience this with another team,” said Rutland High School Senior Margo Thompson.

Returning IBOTS members and mentors said they are looking forward to the competition in 2025.
