Police officer shot, Main Street closed in Milton

MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Channel 3 News confirms from multiple sources that an officer was shot.

First responders were called to 78 Main St. at around 7 p.m. Wednesday for a structure fire. When they arrived, a suspect opened fire on them.

One officer was struck, they were transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

We don’t know the exact condition of the officer who was hit, nor do we know that person’s identity. We are also trying to figure out if anyone else was hurt.

No one is in custody at this time. Police say they believe the threat is contained.

Main street has been closed to all traffic from US 7 to the intersection of East Rd. VSP asking the public to avoid the area.
