THETFORD, Vt. — A Pepperell woman was killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 91 South in Thetford on Saturday afternoon, and the Vermont State Police said the driver has been cited for gross negligent operation resulting in death.

Alyssa Tetreault, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash, according to a police press release.

Two juvenile passengers — an 8-year-old from Billerica, and a 5-year-old from Pepperell — were in the vehicle at the time of the wreck. Police said that both children were properly restrained and sustained suspected minor injuries.

The crash took place shortly before 2 p.m. Police said they determined that a 2004 Pontiac GTO, driven by Joseph Hamilton, 40, of Plaistow, New Hampshire, was traveling southbound when he failed to maintain his lane and struck a guardrail.

Neither Tetreault nor Hamilton were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the release.

While Tetreault was pronounced dead at the scene, police said that Hamilton suffered suspected major injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

The two children were also transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center as a precaution, according to police. Their identities were not released by police.

Police said that road conditions were wet due to rain, with standing water present at the time of the crash.

Hamilton has been cited to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on June 11.
