New population count shows Vermont has above average bat population

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) -Vermont’s bat professional says the Indiana bat inhabitants is powerful in Vermont.

Fish and Wildlife Small Mammal Biologist Alyssa Bennet has been trapping and counting Indiana bats all summer season.

The inhabitants has been affected by the fast-spreading fungal illness, white nostril syndrome.

Bennett experiences seeing greater than 100 bats popping out of every bat field and estimates there are greater than 500 in complete.

She says that’s an enormous inhabitants in comparison with the post-white nostril syndrome colony counts in the remainder of the nation that are totaling 50 to 80 Indiana bats.
