LETTER: ‘We’re voting for the future of Vermont’ — Waterbury Roundabout
Oct. 14, 2022
To the Editor,
I might wish to encourage you to cowl the ultimate weeks of the gubernatorial marketing campaign in another way. What I imply is that this election isn’t just between incumbent Gov. Phil Scott and challenger Brenda Siegel; it is about dozens of secretaries and commissioners and a whole lot of board and fee appointees. In case your readers haven’t thought-about the ramifications of this not too long ago, I urge them to familiarize themselves with Vermont’s record of companies and departments, virtually all of that are headed by gubernatorial appointees. It is also clever to try Vermont’s huge variety of boards and commissions, the place almost all members serve on the will of the governor.
These unelected secretaries, commissioners, and board members – and the oldsters who work below them – are the individuals who run the day after day operations of our state. And, whereas it’s true that legislators can cross legal guidelines to vary the circumstances the civil servants and bureaucrats work inside, it’s not a fast or simple course of, and the gubernatorial tentacles are virtually in all places.
There’s a lot work to be finished on dozens of essential points like healthcare, housing, wages, training, local weather, overdoses, the continued pandemic, and the numerous layers of social justice between and past, and Democratic nominee Brenda Siegel is the clear option to make a optimistic affect.
Now we have to recollect this after we vote. We’re not voting for an individual; we’re voting for the way forward for Vermont.
Thanks,
Peter Langella
