ESSEX, Vt. (WCAX) – Amazon says it’s exploring opening a small operations facility in Essex, a spokesperson confirmed to WCAX News on Tuesday.

“{It} would support providing fast delivery and great service to local customers,” the spokesperson said.

Documents on the town of Essex’s website show plans for a 107,000-square-foot distribution facility to be located off Kimo Drive, near Saxon Hill Road. The area is described as 22.94 acres, which is vacant and mostly woodland and meadow. While the documents do not reference Amazon, signage in documents include logos for the e-commerce website.

Vermont does not have any Amazon operations facilities, and a spokesperson says the closest one is in Granville, New York.

The process is still in the early planning phase. A public hearing for the project is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

We have a crew working on this story and expect to have more details on the Channel 3 News starting at 4 p.m.
