Warwick hosts Rhode Island State BBQ Championship
WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — The annual Rhode Island State BBQ Championship was held in Warwick on Friday and Saturday.
Over 20 competitors participated in this year’s event in categories such as chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket.
This year’s competition featured Bill Gillespie, founder and Head Pit Master of the World Champion Smokin’ Hoggz BBQ, and Bill Purvis of Chicken Fried Barbecue.
The grand champion will receive an invitation to the American Royal World Series of Barbecue in Kansas City, MO.
The event is part of the South County Hot Air Balloon Festival.
