Salve Regina University assisted in Rhode Island football’s win on Saturday. Here’s how
Coach Jim Fleming speaks about URI football’s playoff win on Saturday
The Rhode Island Rams reached their historic 11th win of the season, beating Central Connecticut State in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
After the Rhode Island Rams beat Central Connecticut State, 21-17, in their first-round FCS playoff matchup on Saturday, head football coach Jim Fleming gave credit to a fellow Rhode Island college football program.
Fleming thanked Salve Regina University for providing the footballs used in Saturday’s game. Seems that the Wilson footballs that URI were supposed to use didn’t arrive, so he reached out to Kevin Gilmartin, the head coach at Salve for a hand.
“Salve Regina, thank you for letting us use your balls during the course of the week. That’s what Rhode Island people do, they look out for each other and they back each other,” Fleming said.
With the win, URI advances to face Mercer University next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Georgia.
