Rhode Island welcomes improved technique for breast cancer detection | ABC6
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging opens the first facility in Rhode Island to offer contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM).
CEM is a digital technique designed to improve the diagnostic capabilities for breast cancer detection.
According to Lifespan, CEM has advanced cancer detection features that enhances visualization of tumors, particularly for those with a recent cancer diagnoses, a history of breast cancer, or abnormal mammogram results.
The combination of the injection of an iodine-based contrast agent and a mammogram helps create a more clear distinction between normal breast tissue and potential lesions, according to Radiologist and Director of the Pappas Center, Martha Mainiero.
