Rhode Island man found guilty of negligent homicide for 2021 crash in Stonington

STONINGTON Conn. (WFSB) – A Rhode Island man has been found guilty of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle for a fatal car crash in Stonington in 2021.

63-year-old James Pont of Ashaway, R.I., was found guilty for a 2021 crash that killed 39-year-old Ryan Poland of North Providence, R.I.

On January 18, 2021, Pont crossed the double center line on Pendleton Hill Road in Stonington and collided head-on with Poland.

Poland died from the crash. Pont was seriously injured.

Pont was then arrested by Connecticut State Police.

His sentencing is scheduled for May 28, 2025 in New London Superior Court.
