ATTLEBORO — A Providence man on probation for drug dealing in Rhode Island was arraigned Friday in Attleboro District Court on narcotics charges related to a traffic stop on Newport Avenue.

Roshan J. Young, 42, was freed after posting $3,000 cash bail and faces charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and two motor vehicle charges, according to court records.

He was stopped about 1 p.m. Thursday on Newport Avenue in the area of Pitas Avenue by Officer Benjamin McAndrews allegedly for driving with a suspended license, according to a prosecutor and a police report.

Following a subsequent investigation, police say they found a total of eight grams of suspected crack cocaine in the car and in his sweatshirt pouch. They also found two cellphones in the vehicle and almost $800 cash, according to police.

A prosecutor requested $5,000 cash bail, saying Young has a lengthy criminal record in Rhode Island including a drug dealing case in which he was sentenced to serve six years of a 15-year sentence with the balance suspended for 15 years with probation.

His case in Attleboro was continued to next month
