Aetna Bridge Co. $45.8 million bid wins contract to demolish Washington Bridge | ABC6
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The state of Rhode Island is expected to finalize the contract to demolish the Washington Bridge tomorrow.
Aetna Bridge Co. won the bid to demolish the bridge at $45.8 million.
“We’re pleased that we have somebody to tear down the bridge,” said Governor Dan McKee.
A spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that we will not see work begin on the bridge until August, with demolition officially starting in September.
It is reported that demolition is on track to finish in January, but there is no word on when reconstruction of the westbound side of the bridge will start after no bids were received for that project.
The state is seeking information from contractors on the reconstruction of the bridge before trying for a bid again.
