SUNSET SATURDAY: 5:40 p.m.
SUNRISE SUNDAY: 7:27 a.m.
ALERT: None
AWARE: None
This is well above average, as our highs should be near 37 degrees, and the lows should be in the low 20s. High pressure dominates and sticks around for a bit!
We kick off the work week with sunny skies and highs, staying near 50. Not only do we have a stretch of warmer weather, it’ll also be dry. The grounds are still very muddy from a wet January, and now we will catch a break. Our low temperatures will still be slightly below freezing, so bundle up at the bus stop and head out the door in the morning. You’ll be able to carry the heavy winter coat home.
Friday is the next chance for rain showers, as highs will be in the mid to upper 50s. It’s not looking like a washout.
Through Valentine’s Day, temperatures are trending well above normal. That means mid-week highs could get near 60 degrees!

Pittsburgh Mexican restaurant shut down by health department
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A Mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood was shut down by the Allegheny County Health Department after inspectors found dead cockroaches and more than a dozen other violations.
The health department ordered El Paisano on Beechview Avenue to close after an inspection on Thursday.
According to the report, the inspector saw one live German roach under a sink and dead roaches “too numerous to count” underneath the microwave and beneath a cooler. The inspector noted the facility is treated quarterly for pests, but it should be treated biweekly instead.
The inspector also reportedly found multiple items held at temperatures that were too high, including cooked ground beef and fish filets.
Both the cockroaches and cold holding temperature violations are considered high-risk violations, which means they may lead directly to food-borne illness or injury.
The report lists several other medium- and low-risk violations, including a 9-foot-deep pit over the building’s sewer line with suspected sewage visible at the bottom. The only hand sink in the kitchen wasn’t working and there wasn’t any hot water in the kitchen’s three-compartment sink, the inspector said.
The facility’s health permit also expired in November of 2023.
When the closure order is removed, the health department’s website will be updated.

Ryan Clark Blasts NFL For Steelers Schedule
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 schedule dropped yesterday, and many fans have already expressed concerns.
The Steelers begin the season immediately with a return for new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to Atlanta, where he spent 2021 thru 2023 as their head coach.
However, the real issue for most fans arises with their post-bye week schedule. After a Week 9 bye week, they go to take on the Commanders in Landover. Then, from Week 11 to Week 18 they will play all 6 of their divisional games, starting with the Ravens at home Week 11. Their only reprieve from tough AFC North competition comes against two of the best teams in the NFL in the Eagles and the Chiefs. The Chiefs game will be played on Christmas Day on just four days rest.
Former Steelers safety and current NFL analyst Ryan Clark had a lot to say in regards to the schedule, mostly regarding its perceived toughness.
“Coach Tomlin has a saying, I try to make things as uncomfortable as possible. Guess what my dog? You ain’t gotta try hard this year because the NFL did it for you,” Clark said in a clip from ESPN’s Get Up on Thursday morning. “Who made this schedule? What dude from Cleveland all of a sudden got a job in the league office? To think that you have to play the Ravens twice, the Bengals, the Cleveland Browns, and then the Eagles and the Chiefs…the end of the season is where we’ve seen the Steelers find ways to compete.’”
The Steelers will have a chance to prove that they can compete down the stretch like Clark said, starting with the Falcons in Week 1.
