2 Popular Pittsburgh Restaurants Hit With Consumer Alerts

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued consumer alerts for two restaurants in the city’s East End after recent inspections uncovered numerous health code violations.

The two eateries are The Bagel Factory on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill and Mia Pizza on Baum Boulevard in Bloomfield.

At the Bagel Factory, two live mice were found in a glue trap in the bakery. Nesting material was found behind the ice machine and display cases facing front door.

Rodent droppings were found in areas that included speed racks stored in dry storage area; on the ground along the walls in the dry storage area; on the base of a stand mixer; on a shelf next to the prep cooler in the kitchen; on a sheet tray used as a bakery shelf;in the bakery, on the ground in the corners of the bakery; under the display cases facing the front door and a corner office area; on the ground in both restrooms and on the prep table beneath the slicer in the cafe.

At Mia Pizza,fresh rodent droppings found on the floor under the front counter; on the counter
near the registers; on the shelf holding the sugar and flour; in a bucket stored in a storage area; on the floor under a bathroom mop sink; around an exposed pipe, on the floor next to the merchandizer holding dough; under a three-bowl sink; under the dough prep table and under the front counter where pizza boxes are made.
