Community comes together to give bikes to Afghan refugees

BRYN MAWR, Pa. — A whole group in Pennsylvania is working collectively to assist newly resettled Afghan refugees really feel at dwelling and have the instruments they should succeed.

HIAS Pennsylvania, which works with refugees, realized the brand new neighbors within the larger Philadelphia space wanted transportation.

Understanding many had been accustomed to bikes, volunteers went on a mission to seek out bikes to donate.

They turned to Decrease Merion Township Police, who confiscate dozens of deserted and stolen bikes yearly.

Police donated bikes that haven’t been claimed to the volunteers, who then took them to M+M Two Wheelers, a motorbike store, to be mounted up.

Over the previous six years, HIAS has helped get about 100 bikes to refugees utilizing group sources.

The recipients of the bikes say they’re are an exquisite present that’s serving to them settle into their new group!
