Trump is encouraging Pennsylvania state lawmakers to repeal mail-in voting law

Behind the scenes, a key ally says that former President Donald Trump is encouraging state lawmakers in Pennsylvania to repeal Act 77, the legislation that enables all voters within the state to forged ballots by mail, an effort that reveals that he’s working behind the scenes to have an effect on the 2022 midterm elections.

On Sept. 6, there was a gathering in Trump Tower with Trump and key allies about the way to urge Pennsylvania state Republicans to overturn or repeal Act 77, in accordance with veteran political strategist and longtime Trump ally Michael Caputo, who participated within the assembly. Caputo said that he and others who’re engaged on repealing Act 77 requested the assembly with Trump. The previous president agreed to see them and was encouraging, Caputo added. 

“Trump’s message within the September 2022 assembly was that [Pennsylvania] state legislators must act now, or else we can have no excuse mail-in balloting lengthy into the long run,” Caputo instructed CBS Information. “What can [Trump] do? Caputo stated Trump is repeatedly speaking to allies in Pennsylvania about their push to alter election legislation and stated he retains shut tabs on state legislative developments, and known as Trump’s efforts “encouraging” and energetic. 

Democrats voted in far greater numbers by mail in Pennsylvania in 2020: over 2.6 million voted by mail in 2020 — 1.7 million have been Democrats and about 623,000 have been Republicans.
