Parts of central Pennsylvania under severe thunderstorm warning
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of central Pennsylvania, pending inclement weather Saturday evening.
The warning’s zone encompasses northeastern Cumberland County, northwestern Dauphin County, northeastern Juniata County and eastern Perry County until 6:45 p.m.
The National Weather Service said residents in those areas should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for their protection.
A severe thunderstorm warning is issued when a severe thunderstorm is detected by radar or when a thunderstorm with hail bigger than one inch or winds equal to 58 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
They can also produce tornadoes with little or no advance warning, the National Weather Service said.
