Multi-vehicle crash on I-83 in Pennsylvania leaves 1 dead, 3 injured

A woman was killed and three other people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 83  in York County in the early hours of Saturday morning, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police said.

Authorities were notified of an incident on the southbound lanes of I-83 in Fairview Township just before 1:30 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicates a total of six vehicles were involved in the crash: four carrying passengers and two used for commercial or business purposes.

When first responders arrived at the scene they found a 21-year-old female motorist dead. The woman, who hasn’t been named, was driving one of the passenger vehicles, state police said.

Three other victims were taken to Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center for “evaluation of their injuries,” police spokesperson James Grothey said. Their condition was not immediately known.

The southbound lanes on I-83 at Exit 40A were shut down for several hours Saturday morning as police investigated the incident.

All lanes were reopened around 10:30 a.m, Grothey said in a statement shared on social media.
