Van Drew will speak at convention – New Jersey Globe
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) will address the Republican National Convention on Tuesday evening, one of three New Jerseyans on the speaker roster.
Van Drew is the chairman of Trump’s New Jersey campaign and a favorite of the former president.
“I would like to thank President Trump for once again giving me the opportunity to share my story with the American people and speak directly to millions of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents who will be tuning in because they’re fed up with what Joe Biden and the Democrats are doing to our country,” Van Drew said.
Four years ago, Van Drew was given a prime-time speaking spot.
Robert Unanue, the CEO of New Jersey-based Goya Food, will also speak at the convention in Milwaukee. Some Democrats had called for a boycott for support of Trump – sales went up – and his board censused him for making unproven allegations about the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
New Jersey resident Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s 2016 campaign manager and a senior White House advisor, also has a speaking slot.
While ten Republican candidates for U.S. Senate will speak at the convention, New Jersey’s Curtis Bashaw will not be among them. Trump had endorsed Christine Serrano Glassner in the Senate primary.
Also not speaking this year is former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who went from top Trump supporter to bitter political rival. Christie was the keynote speaker at Mitt Romney’s 2012 – a consolation prize after being passed over for the vice presidency – and was a prime-time speaker in 2016 and 2020.
