Sand collapsed, trapped siblings digging hole

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – An 18-year-old man from Maine was killed Tuesday night within the collapse of a gap on the seaside that the person was digging together with his 17-year-old sister, authorities mentioned.

Township cops and emergency medical companies personnel went to the seaside on the barrier island at about 4:09 p.m.

The brother and sister spent the afternoon with their household on the seaside, referred to as Ocean Seashore 3, a non-public seaside group close to Chadwick Seashore, authorities mentioned.

Toms River Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill Jr. mentioned the opening was deep, dug out with Frisbees.

The 17-year-old lady was rescued and handled on the scene, police mentioned

Emergency crews from the encompassing space pulled her brother out of the sand about 6:45 p.m.

This isn’t the primary time a collapse has occurred on the seashores of Monmouth and Ocean counties.

In July 2020, Belmar police, lifeguards, rescuers and firefighters saved a boy from a collapsed sand gap.

In August 2015, lifeguards and bystanders pulled a 12-year-old boy out of a collapsed gap in Surf Metropolis.
